"I guess I should go to sleep soon," you inform Hyri, stifling a huge yawn. "I can't believe I'm sleepy after sleeping for two days."
"Side effect of the magic, most likely," he replies, kicking earth over the barely-glowing embers until they are safely smothered. "Goodnight."
His sentences are clipped and absent, and he seems to be somewhere far away, contemplating something that troubles him, but you return to the tent, your eyes too heavy for overmuch thinking. All is quiet except for the crickets chorusing, and the heavy darkness of the moonless night is mediated only by the incredible array of stars like multicolored jewels scattered in the heavens' inky darkness by some generous god. You slip through the tent flap, your eyes adjusting to the dim blue light of a lantern composed of luminous rock, and find the hammock again.
