"Thank you," you reply, looking up and smiling through your tears. "I don't know where I would be without you!"
"Probably inside a wildcat," he remarks wryly, making you laugh in spite of yourself. "Now. If you're to pass for an ordinary peasant, you have some homework to do."
"I'm ready!" You move closer to the warmth of the fire, huddling yourself together against the chill night air, and prepare to listen carefully.
"You are in the kingdom of Berek, ruled by King Reidya, and under the domain of the High Lord."
Hyri hands you a careful, hand drawn parchment map depicting what appears to be a large continent divided into three kingdoms, Berek, the largest, composed of forest, farmland and bordered by the mountains of Ninya, which is slightly smaller and apparently mostly mountainous, and Dretin, which is the smallest and almost entirely barren desert, with a few large cities. Only Berek and Dretin border the ocean.
"Okay. Does the High Lord rule all the kingdoms?" you ask, tracing the outline of Berek with your finger.
"Indeed he does. He's the most powerful person in the world that I know of," Hyri replies. Something in his tone makes you feel a little uneasy about this High Lord person, but you shrug it off and ask another question.
