Simplicity

You're still not sure about who these people are, but then, they're the first ones you've seen since you woke up. After a moment you decide they seem to be going another way, so you begin following them, trying to catch what they're saying. It's tricky, but since your feet are bare you don't make any sound, and you're able to keep pace.
You continue several minutes like this, still trying to listen. There seem to be two of them, an older man and a young one, arguing over something. By now the breeze you felt has died off, but once or twice you catch it again. Maybe there's more than one hole down here.
No time to stop and examine. The younger man sounds upset, and his voice sounds a bit familiar, if you could just think. You don't want to lose them, they may be your only hope to get out of these tunnels, or at least find food. As you creep along, you become aware of something around your neck, an old iron key on a string. A clue! But from who, and to what? Maybe you're not alone.
Abruptly they've stopped, and you barely catch yourself from stumbling too close, but will risk a peek. They seem to be dressed in shabby grey clothes standing near a weakly fluttering torch, with two hallways beyond it. The younger one is pointing at one, while his companion shakes his head.
After another minute you realize they aren't going anywhere, and seem just as lost as you. Then, still faint but closer, probably from one of the halls, comes the female voice, crying again. The young man mutters, "Oh God..." even as you think the same thing.
Well, they look harmless enough, and you can't wait forever.
