“We stick to the original path. I appreciate the effort Raoul, but I can’t hinder our progress due to mere legends.”

Raoul begrudgingly nods. “As you wish Mr. Havaskar.”

After an uncomfortable night sleep on a creaky wooden floor, your group begins its trek into the jungle on the original path planned. As far as you can recall, you heard no strange howls during the night. Flights of fancy you conclude.

The jungle path is narrow, the ground misty. The expected sounds are present, chirping tropical birds, buzzing mosquitoes and even the occasional swinging monkey. Nothing completely out of the ordinary save the fact that it was unfathomably hot the deeper into the jungle the group traveled. Sweat drips heavily from your brows as Raoul removes his shirt, throwing a wink toward Skye. She blushes and turns away. The imposing Bailey has rivers of water falling off his bald head, but his grimace face remains stone cold. Wren is fiddling with her radio, frustrated she stops the group.

“I don’t know why, but the equipment is acting up. I can’t get a signal from the radio. The walkie talkies are useless if I can’t figure this out.”

“Ok Wren, I think we all need a rest anyway. Drink some water and we’ll move out in five.” You state.

“Alright. Sounds good.” She sits on a rock and begins to examine the radio.

Bailey removes his canteen, dumping water on his almost sizzling scalp.

“Strange…” You hear Skye mutter. She is examining a strange green fern with bright purple coloration.

“What’s wrong?”

“I…have no idea what this is. It’s secreting some sort of fume.” Upon closer inspection you see she is right. Its faint but there is an odd gas emanating from the plant. It’s hot. You stare past into the jungle and see that there are dozens of these plants littering the jungle floor. They must be what are causing such an incredible heat.

“Well Skye it looks like you will be discovering a new species of flora!” She smiles at the thought but seems concerned.

“It’s just…if this is a defense mechanism the fumes could be…”

A large crash is heard in the jungle, spooking the group. Bailey tenses up and cocks his shotgun.

“What the hell was that?” You ask.

No one responds. Bailey scans the area, shotgun at the ready for hip fire.
