The Tale of Abigail

For a second, all is silent. After a while, however, the ghostly knocking returns. Terrified, Abigail rushes across the room to the telephone, her hands shaking as she dials the number of her friend, Mala.

Abigail feels for the telephone line, and gasps when she discovers that it has been cut. A cold terror creeps up upon her- her mother didn't do this, and neither did she.
She slumps onto the floor, holding herself tightly. Maybe it was nothing, she tells herself. But still- what should she do?
