Beautiful Melody
Excited that someone other then my sisters wanted to talk to me I jumped to reach my phone. “Yellow?” I greeted happily. “Yo Melody where you at?” the familiar half skater half stoner voice of Zac questioned. “At home of course.” I answered walking back to my spot next to the window. “What the hell you there for?” “Am I supposed to be else where?” I asked confused. “The park” he responded the duh apparent in his voice. Not being able to help myself I began laughing. “What’s so funny?” Zac demanded. “My sisters just asked to go and I said no.” “See, even they knew to come hang at the park.” “Alright, you’ve convinced me.” “I knew I would, see you in a bit.” I hung up and sighed looking at my sisters. “your wish has been granted, were going to the park,” I stood “so get some long sleeved shirts on.” I added. My sisters excitedly ran from my room. If we were going to be out in the rain, I could at least attempt to keep them from getting sick. I however decided to stay in my clothes, what was the point in dirtying another outfit.
My sisters were quick to return to my bedroom, not only had they put on long sleeved shirts but they had gone the extra step and put on rain jackets. “Good thinking” I smiled my approval.
Before walking out of my bedroom, I grabbed my camera, cell phone, keys, id and what little money I had. I quietly closed my door and locked it. We slowly tip toed to the stairs, hearing music coming from the study, we scurried down the stairs to the kitchen.
Mom looked up from the kitchen table, where she had been crying, when we entered the room. I averted my eyes, I never could stand looking into her puffy red eyes or seeing the new bruises on her face. I turned towards the door, pushing my sisters in front of me. Nancy pulled the door open and stepped out Cassie following. “Where are you three off to in the rain?” mom questioned in her most commanding voice. I paused in the doorway “the park.” I answered closing the door.
