Sigma Epsilon Chi

"Right, yeah, come this way," he said, gesturing toward a conference room with a few people sitting at the center table. "These're Skeve, Piorre, and Bis. They're the other officers." All three of them were wearing the similar style; bright colored tunics with the collars worn wrong. It wasn't quite as ugly when the tunic wasn't pink, but it still looked awful. Teenagers. Go figure.

"So, here's the thing. We've got a CFR visit coming up."

"A what?"

"CFR. Chapter Field Representative," explained Jorrin. "The national headquarters sends them out to check up on the local chapters around the world. Kingdom. Thing. Whatever."

"For the most part, we've got nothing to worry about," said Piorre. "Our grades are high enough, and we do enough charity work and community service work to make them happy."

"But they have some funny rules about behavior that are just unreasonable," interrupted Bis. "We're not gonna be able to hold any keggers during the week she's here. We can't even have any chicks over unless they're married to someone here."

"What does that have to do with me?" asked Nerek.

"Well, it's that out-dated 'no sex' rule that's gonna bust our butt," said Jorrin. "Nationals isn't too big on bastard children. We're just a bunch of guys acting out on our healthy desires in a healthy way, but they're gonna get all up in our face about it if they find out. We're already on probation, brah. We can't get in trouble again."

"And just what do you expect me to do about it?"

"There's a big loophole," said Skeve. "What they don't know can't hurt them. Magic can't tell them if we've got bastard kids- they'd get interference from siblings. So they just figure out if anyone in our bloodline is unhappy- they figure a bastard child is also likely an unhappy one. It's a long shot for them, but it's the best they can do. Which is fine... but we've got so many bastards running around that the odds aren't in our favor. If they find someone, they examine it further. If it's family, no harm no foul. But if it's a bastard child... we get shut down."

"So... lemme get this straight... you want me to go out in the world, find any kids you may have had, and then make sure they're happy?" asked Nerek.

"Well, only part of the world," said Jorrin. "Wherever you don't go, we'll send out other mercs. And it's only the officers that they'll be checking up on. I fuck local, so my loose ends are good. It's these three that might cost us our charter. We all go to our hometowns over break, so..."

"I... see. So I can use any means necessary, as long as I make them happy?"

"Yeah, brah. I mean, you only get paid if you succeed, but whatever bribes and tools you need to use to get the job done, we'll budget it out. Just don't do anything illegal under our name."

"What age range am I looking at, here?"

"The oldest would be in their early twenties. So does this mean you'll take the job, brah?"

"I... why the hell not," said Nerek. "It's the most unconventional job I've ever taken, but there's really not much else out there in the way of work."

"Great!" said Jorrin, slapping Nerek on the back. "These guys can tell you a bit about their hometown if you ask them, and then lemme know when you've decided who you're gonna help out. We've all gotta stay here... but you'll probably need to know their name to get the job done."
