The Mind Bender
Entering the breakfast hut, he saw that Alexis had beat him there per usual. They had grown up together and were best friends. She was perhaps one of the reasons the thought of leaving the village was so difficult for him. He wasn't sure when his feelings for her had moved beyond friendship, though of course he had felt her feelings change. His powers had seen to that.
Alexis looked up and smiled. But even through her smile, the sadness radiated off her, almost overpowering him. She thought his decision was made.
It was suddenly so hard to focus. The other villagers were entering the hut, their voices mixing with their thoughts. He still found it difficult to block them out.
Alexis stood and began crossing the room to him, bringing her sadness closer. He wanted to go to her and comfort her but he also wanted to run to the forest and clear his thoughts.
