The Rift

Microhpone Mike was gripping the radio in one hand and the remote in the other. When Calvin came back on, he was able to respond immedaitely.

"Mike?"

"Yes."

"Do it."

Mike put away the radio and then steadied himself up as tall as he could. He faced the line of humanoids, menacing beanth the black and gray of the sky. There were a couple lights on in the floors of the buildings. Neon signs glowed in the rain.

Mike gripped the rectangular controller tight. His hand quavered with excitement, but he also felt terrible. His eyes held the red button in the center.

"Please don't let anyone die because of this." he said to no one in particular.

His finger dug into the button.

First there was the whumping, glass breaking sound of one bullet going off, and then there was another, and then there the firing became a steady stream.

Of in the distance, first floor windows were shattering, and fine clouds of dust were appearing wherever the bullets found their marks. Mike heard two distressed screams echo outward a few seconds later. Both women.

Before the minute was over, a screeching siren had started up, and it's sound was crashing throughout the land like a tidal wave.

While the bots continued to fire from their outstreched arms, Mike glanced at his watch.

Two more minutes.
