Batman: Gotham Knights
You sit back and have the dinner Alfred fixed you. It's a nicely done plate of turkey finger sandwiches. Finally, the news report comes on.
"Um, yes, Matt, breaking news down at Arkham Asylum. Bombs have gone off, supposedly set by the criminal known as the Joker. So far rescue teams have found no survivors. Inside the Asylum, along with all the inmates and the Joker himself, was Jeremiah Arkham, the chief of staff for the Asylum, and over 300 employees. The police have apparantly just now received a tape from the Joker. We'll inform you later as more details arise. Matt?"
You flick off the television. You wonder what the late clown prince of crime could've sent to the GCPD. You head downtown to investigate...
...to find them watching a recording of the same broadcast the Joker sent you earlier. Gordon sees you watching from the window and pulls you into his office.
"Batman," he mutters, "The video confirms it. We examined the radio wave frequencies at the time and it all checks out. You knew about this disaster before it was going to happen. Is that the truth?"
You look into Gordon's eyes and solemnly nod. He sits down, a bit too stunned to stand.
"Get out." he barks.
Over the next couple of weeks, the city of Gotham rejects their protector and, through you, Nightwing, Robin, the Huntress, Batgirl, and Oracle are all rejected by both the public and the superhero community. Finally, Gotham passes an Anti-Vigilante law, officially banning superheroes. You continue to operate, in secret of course.
Eventually, Superman brings you in. One cruel choice and your entire life is over.
