Refills

Cut to: A well preserved path in a patch of woods. Hank sites on a park bench. He is alone, no one else is anywhere nearby, on the trail or otherwise. He appears to be waiting for someone. He glances at his watch, sighs, and then stands. He looks up and down the trail. Seeing nothing, he sits back down.

A bit of time elapses and Hank continues to wait. Eventually his head turns as we hear the faint and distant footsteps of someone approaching from further up the trail. Hank stands to see, and it is the woman he has been waiting for. Violet walks toward him, her face unreadable; completely devoid of emotion, showing no pleasure or pain. Hers is the visage of apathy.

She soon reaches Hank and stands before him.

Hank: Voilet,,, (He embraces her and she returns the hug somewhat meekly)

Violet: Hank... (Hank starts reaching into his pocket for the ring box. He pulls it out but before he can present it to her she finishes her statement:) We need to talk.

(The nervous excitement on Hank's face is gone, replaced suddenly with anxiety and desperation.)

Hank: What about?

Violet: I just... I don't think we should see each other anymore.

Hank: What? You... I don't understand, Vi.

Violet: Everything has gone stale for me. There used to be all this emotion in me whenever I was with you, but now... There's just nothing there, Hank. (Tears begin welling up in her eyes)

Hank: But I love you. (Violet chokes on a sob.)

Violet: Oh, Hank... (She reaches up and touches Hank's cheek briefly.) I'm so sorry.

(Hank just stares back at her without saying a word, he's too shocked to react. She leans in and plants a quick chaste kiss upon his cheek.)

Violet: Goodbye, Hank. (she turns around and runs off up the trail, leaving the way she came. Hank remains standing where he is, the ring box sitting loosely in his hand.)

Hank: (in a very weak voice) Yeah... Hey, that's okay. I understand.

(Hank opens the ring box and stares down at the ring within for a long moment before closing the box and tossing it to the side of the trail. He turns around and walks down the trail in the opposite direction from which Violet had taken. He walks slowly, like the living dead. We hear him sniffle as he walks to the edge of the screen and then he is gone.)
