Hellstone
Gabe paced back and forth in his new apartment, trying to think of a reasonable plan. But all he could think of doing was using his anonymity to drop the stone in someone else's room, and letting them figure out the stone's properties on their own. In the end, he could think of no actual reasons how his plan could fail. That, and the police investigation of "his" death was really starting to get unnerving.
The apartment next door was shared by two guys who went to the same college that he did. Gabe really didn't know much about them- if it wasn't for the free college T-shirts they wore from time to time, he'd have never known they were students. They went out partying every single night, and almost always left their door wide open. With luck, he could just put it in the middle of their living room, and they'd figure it out.
Well, there was no putting it off. Gabe loosely wrapped the stone in a tissue, using gloves to make sure he didn't accidentally touch the stone. This way, if one of the them were actually in the room, he could try and "accidentally" drop it on the floor. He stuffed the bundle in his pocket, and walked out into the hallway. The door was open, like always. Taking in a deep breath, Gabe walked in the door.
"Can I help you?" said a voice. Gabe flinched- one of the guys was still in the room.
"Umm, hi..." he said, trying shrug off his surprise. "I, uhh, hate to barge in here 'n stuff, but...uhh, I was, uhh...that is..."
"Stop rambling and spit it out," he replied, looking at up at him over his cell phone.
"Does your internet connection work? I've been messing with my computer all day, and nothing I do seems to be working. I mean, I've switching out modems to see if-"
"I'll go check," he replied, interrupting Gabe. With that, he walked out of the room; eyes on his cell phone. Gabe took the opportunity to pull the stone out of his pocket, and drop it on the floor.
"Yeah dude, our internet's workin' fine. Must be your computer or sumthin'."
"Alright, thanks, ummm..."
"My name's Dan," he replied.
"Well, umm, thanks again, Dan," said Gabe, supressing his urge to leave running. He turned around slowly, and started to walk out the door.
"Hey, wait," said Dan. "Is this yours?"
Gabe froze, and turned around to see Dan holding the Hellstone in his hand. "Umm, no. It's not mine. I dunno what it is."
"Oh, alright," replied Dan, dropping the stone on the ground. "See you around, uhh..."
"Oh, my name's G-err, Doug. I'm Doug."
"...right. See you around, Doug."
