Life After Life

"A male roommate?!? Is that even possible?" I couldn't believe it. I was in the Hall of Angels and they were offering me a male roommate. Wasn't it clear that I was female? How... immoral.

"You shouldn't have even offered her that option," Jared scoffed. "She'd never take it."

Mark just smiled. "We are supposed to offer all options to all new entries. That's part of the reason you still do gate duty, attitude." Jared made a loud sound which clearly punctuated his discontent and looked away. Mark turned his attention back to me. "Some females like other females and find it difficult to live with one, but have no interest in males. They get paired with males who find it difficult to live with males, you see?"

I blinked at him. "You mean lesbians are encouraged to live with gay guys to avoid uncomfortable situations?" He couldn't be serious. I'd scoured the Bible, and there was no room for homosexuality in it. Or, maybe this was how they kept it from being a problem, by separating them so that relationships didn't develop.

"Yes, so long as it makes them comfortable."

"So if I were interested in other girls it wouldn't be a problem?" Here I expected to here the standard answer. It isn't a sin if you don't act on it right? Mark shifted a bit uncomfortably. Jared turned a glare on me.

"Why don't you just ask it right out. Are gays really okay with God? That's what you want to ask right? Do you really think he'd help create people and then hate what he created? Or maybe you don't think he created homosexuals. Are you one of those people who think it's a choice? Well let me tell you something, little miss prim and proper Christian. If it's a choice, that means we're all bisexual and we choose what we want. That means you too. You have the potential to be a lesbian. Did that ever occur to you? Well, did it?" I found myself shaking my head in confusion. What was his problem? "I hate people like you. I can't do this." With that he stomped off toward the building, leaving me wide eyed and completely confused.

"Please don't mind Jared. He's on the edge of getting kicked out for that sort of thing. He deserves to be here and yet, he won't accept that everyone is different." Mark smiled at me. "It's fine to make any choice you want here. So, does that mean you want a male roommate or not?"
