There is complete and absolute silence in the early hours of the day. The land is blanketed in a hazy fog that seems to clutch time itself, paralyzing it. There's nothing to smell, and the only thing you feel is the cool air upon your face. With every step you take, the grass, coated in dew, tickles, pricks, and pokes your bare feet. Walking beside you is your closest friend. This friend stands tall, gazing across the land with a stern jaw. Your eyes flicker across the field you stand on as you reach the designated waiting area. The time has finally arrived, and despite the serene atmosphere, you feel as though several hundred butterflies have taken up residence in your stomach.
You shift your weight to your left foot, then the right, then left again as you wait for the guardians to arrive. Glancing over to your friend, you try to think of some sort of light conversation to fill the silence that suddenly seems so domineering. You notice that your friend stands rigid, and some morbid sense of humor within takes pleasure in that you're not the only one being affected by stress. Fidgeting once more, you wonder if the guardians are going to arrive at all. The only indication that time is moving, is the sun as it creeps higher into the sky. In the midst of the thick fog, you see a few shapes begin to take form. Finally, you think as the shapes become clearer, moving closer. Your friend sighs, whether out of relief or disappointment, you can't be sure, but regardless, your friend moves forward to meet the figures. You follow closely behind.
When the four guardians finally come into view they stop just slightly ahead of you. Beitu, Guardian of the Temple of Silence, stands on the far left, slightly behind the rest of the guardians. Her long white rabbit ears and tall height make her the most noticeable one out of the four. She gives you a quirky, confident grin and nods at you when you make eye contact with her. To her right stands Titus, Guardian of the Temple of Echoes. His striking red hair is the brightest thing around as far as your eyes can see. It contrasts deeply with his dull cloak and his dark oak staff. Next in line stands Lucius, Guardian of the Temple of Voices. He narrows his cold blue eyes at you, as usual, giving you an unnerving feeling in the pit of your stomach. Trying not to shudder, you glance at the last Guardian in line. The Guardian of the Temple of Discord, Reimel, grins flashing his pearly white fangs at you. His tail twitches at side, and you can't help but wonder how a person like him ever became one of the four guardians.

Titus was the first to break the silence.
"I see that you've both made it here without incident."

Reimel rolled his eyes.
"Let's just get this over with already. I've got important business to attend to today, so let's skip the formalities."

The other three guardians turned to glare at him.

Beitu spoke up, "The fact that you set up a date on the same day of the young one's coming of age ceremonial quest is poor planning on your part."

Reimel's ears flicked back in annoyance.
"We can postpone it to next year. They can wait until then."

Titus shook his head in exasperation. Clearing his throat, he spoke once more, "To begin this quest you must first choose which guardian you want to guide you. Those who desire to engage in frontline combat will choose Reimel."

Reimel grinned.

"Those who would take on the art of black magic will follow Lucius."

Lucius nodded his head ever so slightly.

"If you would prefer white magic you will follow me," Titus said with a smile, "...and those who would engage in stealth combat will choose Beitu."

You regard each of the four guardians carefully as Titus finishes speaking.
