Queen of Pentacles

Three weeks ago you turned 17 and found out that this life perhaps has more to it than you certainly ever thought. It started with Teddy, your best friend. He'd very nearly crashed the car the two of you were in when everything seemed to blend together and then very suddenly time seemed to slow down to very sluggish pace. You correct the car and then the two of you went on your way unharmed. Three days later you found a book on the kitchen windowsill that seemed to explain your every question, well, at least most of them. Magic was real, and you held the spark that seemed to allow you to tap into the reserve of power. You were a natural at this particular field of study and began to spend hours dedicating yourself to spellwork. Where others found difficulty in spells (not that you knew anyone else, but promise me, they struggled) you found ease. It was as if you were truly breathing for the first time. Everything in life seemed to build up to this crescendo of joy and passion that brought you here. You are happy for the first time in a year, though as you read the book it becomes clear magic is not always a joy but sometimes in fact a burden. You might be able to create a fire with a few incantations in Latin or Hebrew but there is something dark that has begun to leech the magic from the world around you, it targets those with power such as yourself.
