The Rescue Mission
Alice cursed herself for not seeing it sooner. Nina had tried to talk to her, but Alice had been too consumed with her own problems.
Being a fainn had it's advantages for sure. Being eternally young and immortal and being able to teleport among her other magical abilities were two big highlights. And she had always rather enjoyed her physical differences from the humans she had been raised with. She considered her pointed ears to be elegant and beautiful, even if she kept them hidden beneath her long heavy brown hair. And her rae - that special coat of soft, thick fur that covered her entire body from the top of her neck down to her wrists and ankles - was a source of pride and comfort to her. It was the distinguishing characteristic of a fainn and she knew hers was special even amongst her kind; most fainn only grew rae over their backs, lower torsos, hips, pelvis, and upper arms and legs. Her more full coverage was the pride and envy of the few remaining fainn on earth, especially for Alice herself.
But she had fallen in love with a human. A man. Despite her loneliness, she had never imagined such a thing, and while her beautiful rae and ears would be highly desirable amongst other fainn, humans seemed to have their own ideals. She had so far kept her body and the soft fur covering it secret from her love, at great and increasingly awkward pains.
All this was made worse when her rae began to grow up over the edges of her cheeks, no longer concealable by practical clothing. She had made excuses to avoid seeing her boyfriend in person since then, but things were coming to an anguishing crossroads for her. And while she fretted about that, Nina had been suffering her own battles. The salon she managed was slowly losing clientele, to the point where her friend and roommate was having trouble staying in business. She had looked into where her customers were going, and discovered a spa across town.
Angry, she'd gone to visit the spa to see what was happening. That was two days ago, and neither Alice, nor their other roommate Ami had seen or head from her since then.
