Lost in a Good Book- A Child's Tale by KatieWroteIt
The book had a creepy cover, Rebecca held it up, looking at the yellow eye that stared back at her. The title read "Fever 1793" curious if ill advised, Rebecca opened the book. She felt the pull, heard the :: POP :: and fell into a chair at what looked like an old style pub or bar. Everyone looked like they belonged in an old city. In fact, they did Rebecca thought to herself as she tried to make out the Old English phrases.

A girl about the age of one of her brothers came over holding a tray. "Have you heard anything about the sickness?" she whispered as if she shouldn't be talking about it.

Rebecca looked up and saw a man wipe his sweat beaded brow. Another man swayed on his seat. She felt the anxiety in the girl's voice it whipped through her, making Becca nervous too. "My Mam says I can't leave the house now."

"MATTIE!!!" someone called from deeper inside the little pub. The girl took a deep breath and turned away swinging her heavy skirts naturally as she went. An old man sat telling stories in the corner, and for a moment it seemed as if all was well. Then someone burst in proclaiming that several deaths had occurred at the waterfront. He said that the men should pack their families and leave for the countryside. A few people snickered- most dismissed the man.

Becca closed her eyes feeling a bit dizzy herself. Next she opened them she was looking at a woman on her deathbed, there was sickness on the air. Having never been exposed to it, Rebecca noticed it at once. The girl Mattie was standing at the door weeping. She wanted to come to the woman in the bed. Another woman was keeping her out and tending the woman. The girl was taken outside. Her grandfather led her away from the pub. The two caught a ride with someone heading for the "country."

Rebecca noticed the streets seemed empty of people no one was walking through them now. There were a few wails and some panicked pleading from people without transportation. She stood watching the cart rolling away, and thought how good it would be to get back to the library. As she thought it the world flipped away, and she was back to safety.
She went to read another book.
