You quietly shake Coryn's shoulder. She awakens equally silent and looks at you with sleep clouds fogging her vision. You keep your hand low and point in the direction of the green eyes.

You start to remember what has green lights for eyes like that... Someone with Night Eyes; ocular lenses that enable the wearer to see in absolute darkness. That's the last fucking thing we need, you think. You can only hope against hope that Night Eyes doesn't have any thing dangerous.

You whisper to Coryn that the two of you should flank the figure. She is hesitant at first and doesn't understand. That's because the World Army doesn't use Night Eyes on the general public.

Night eyes were a necessity in jungle nights when taking siege of a cult of genetically enhanced mutated freaks. There was a problem with night eyes, you remember. Fire blinds them if they look at the flame.

You grab three wooden branches of wood and make your way through the swamp path, Coryn carrying her own torch and coming around the other way.

You throw one branch ahead of you, trying to use the wood as a screen of blinding light that blocked his approach.

But then suddenly you don't see the eyes anymore. There is nothing where the torch light shines but swamp water, grasses and trees with drooping branches.

To your right, you hear Coryn scream a little and a splash in the water, like a body being dragged into it's depths. You look her way to see an extinguished branch of wood floating in the dark waters; a small red ember on it's timber and a trail of smoke.
