Pick Your Poison 2 (Drugs) by Kschlee
Your ex picks up the phone in her hospital room. "Hello?" she says. It's almost a whisper. You are glad to hear her voice, but you are hesitant to speak. Finally you manage to utter out the words,"Hi. It's me." There is a big, long, awkward silence coming from the other end of the phone. You don't hear a dial tone, so you know she didn't hang up. You pray that she answers you. "Hey," she finally says. You let out a deep sigh of relief and you say,"I'm so glad you didn't hang up!" "I could never hang up on you," she says. "Regardless of how big a jerk you've been." You know she's right. You laugh a little and continue. "Listen. I just called to say that I'm sorry. I feel horrible about everything and I didn't mean any of it. I'm sorry for accusing you of cheating, I'm sorry for pushing you. I'm just so sorry for everything." Tears are beginning to form in your eyes and your nose is running. You hope she doesn't notice the somewhat congested sound of your voice. You can almost feel her smiling. "It's okay, but I'm not the one you need to apologize to." WHAT?!? You didn't see THAT one comin'! "What do you mean," you ask her. "You need to apologize to yourself, to your parents, and most of all...to God," came her soft response. To God? Why him? "But," you protest. "I didn't do anything to God." The girl on the other end of the line suddenly went from soft and sweet to a little bit disiplinarian. "Yes you did," she says. "When you hurt yourself, you're hurting God. He already knows what you've done, but it always helps to ask for forgiveness. It helps us to know that he has already given us a clean slate in heaven. We can start over. It's what he wants for us. He still loves you...and so do I." And with that she hung up the phone. Tears are streaming down your face now. You know she's right. You say a silent prayer in your head, asking God's forgiveness, just like she said. You still feel a little guilty. You decide that it's because your parents still have absolutely no clue what's going on. You turn to the police officer to find that..your parents have been standing right behind you throughout your whole phone conversation. They know everything.
You get up and run into your mother's arms, crying like a baby and explaining that you are sorry beyond all reason.
