Everything Went Dark

The two doorways were like the previous ones: nothing fancy, cracked, and covered with vines and such. Evie chose to go right and Addie chose to go left. They didn't count to three, why? They just wanted to get it all over with. The two walked into the doorways at the same time. The pathways were dimly light by fading torches. Evie walked slowly down her path. She was prepared to run, but just didn't want to waste her energy. She felt like she was walking for ages. Her pathway was actually getting really, really hot. Evie just assumed it was cause she was exhausted from running. It did get nearly unbearable hot at one point, but the temperature faded away as she kept walking onwards.

And finally, she saw sunlight! Actual light! Evie started to run towards it, maybe Addie was already out there!! She made it out safely. Evie turned around to see if Addie's path also led out to where she was. But all she saw was a pit of lava. Evie made a mental note to avoid that pit. But where was Addie? And then Evie noticed the open exit and the steep drop a little ways back on the other side of the lava pit. Oh. Addie must have fallen in. Or maybe not. Evie waited about twenty minutes. Nothing. That wasn't a good sign.

But you want to know what was a good sign? Evie had made it out alive. None of her other friends have but--someone called her name. The voice sounded familiar..who was it? Evie stepped away from the temple and closer to the voice. It sounded a lot like Jack. And was that also Elliana? Huh. She didn't realize those two had gotten out. Evie continued to walk to the voice, going deeper and deeper into the jungle. She would see her friends again.
