You steady your nerves and relax your jaw muscles, instead of opting to spit, you swallow. The slush slides down your throat and the room begins to fade away. The dark corners and become bright again. Empty space is replaced with fullness. What looks like . . . tables, and people, and people eating. People eating burgers. After just a moment more everything returns to as it should be. You are in a restaurant. You are eating hamburger. The hamburger is good. Life is good.
