Hero's Journey

A man sits in a dark cell, his hands chained and his feet bound. He is hidden in shadow and sits, waiting patiently. A guard walks restlessly by his cell, not bothering to stop and put food in his empty plate.
The man's name is Javon, and he is imprisoned in a gladiator arena where he has been forced to fight and kill for his own survival. The other warriors fear him, the guards watch him closely, because for months now he has neither spoken a word, nor lost a single match. Now, the guards figured that by starving him and weakening him, they could finally be rid of him in the next match. Fortunately, Javon was planning on being gone by then.
"Psst," said a hidden voice from the cell next to him. "Here," a piece of bread flew through the bars and into Javon's cell. Javon looked at it for a second, before falling to his knees and quickly devouring it.
"You know, me and you are supposed to fight each other in the next match. I don't want to beat you just cuz they're starving you ta death," said the voice. "The seats should be packed tonight though. Two of the arena's greatest fighters, only one man walking away...got to love it," the voice said rather solemnly.
"By the way, names Greco," Javon recognized Greco. Before Javon's arrival, Greco had been the most prized fighter. They said he stood a full foot above all other men, and he was the only other fighter to survive longer than Javon did.
Javon sat near the cell wall where the voice was coming from. Leaning back against the bar, Javon thought to himself. If he managed to escape, their was still the desert he would have to travel through which was filled with all manner of creatures. He might need a companion on his journey.
Javon looked into the shadows of the other cell and quietly said....
