The Priest and the Cowgirl by KellyDawn
Shay tugs her brimmed hat over over her eyes and sighs. It wasn't her place to go meddling in the lives of others...especially in the lives of priests. If there was one thing she didn't need, it was an Bible-beating greenhorn.

The priest turned frantically to the people of the saloon. "Please, won't somebody help me? Please!" He approached the tables of the men playing card games. "Gentlemen, won't you help a messenger of God?"

A gruff man with a bottle in his hand snorted and sneered. "Father, why don't you try the next town over? The folks here don't want nuthin' to do with God."

The priest's face reddened with embarassment. "Sir, if you'd just--"

The man stood from the table, easily towering over the sandy-haired priest. "You're interruptin' my card game, mister. I told you to git!"

"But, please--"

Without another word, the man cracked his beer bottle over the priest's head. The man in black fell to the floor, blood trickling down the side of his face...
Shay intervenes and helps the priest over to her table without fighting his attacker.
