Horror of Horrors!
Will sprints down the block. You grab the suitcase and dash after him.
Up ahead you see an opening into a narrow alley. "That way," you call. "We'll give him the slip!"
You and Will duck into the alley. Overflowing garbage cans line both sides. It smells so bad that you start to gag, but you keep running.
Will screams and collapses to the cobblestones. You skid to a stop just before you trip over him. He clutches his leg.
"My ankle," he moans. "It hurts!"
You grip MagnifiCAT's bag of tricks in one hand and help Will up with your other arm. "Can you walk?" you ask.
"I don't think so," he gasps. He winces in pain.
You glance around the alley. A tall black shape is blocking the way out. MagnifiCAT!
The magician raises his arms high over his head. Two beams of green laser light lance out from his palms.
He aims them straight at you and Will.
"Look out!" you shout. You push Will behind a Dumpster and dive into a garbage can next to it. You land in a mound of old, stinky salad greens.
The two laser beams probe the alley. You keep your head down and hold your breath.
The green beams join together in the center of the alley. A globe of light begins to form. It grows rapidly until it fills the whole alley. Then it explodes!
"Will," you whisper. "There's something there. Right where the ball of light was. MagnifiCAT must have sent it after us."
"What is it?" Will asks.
You stare into the darkness. It's a bunny!
"Look --- it's only a bunny," you whisper. "I bet MagnifiCAT pulled it out of his hat!"
"Why would he send a bunny after us?" Will wonders.
You peer around the edge of the garbage can. MagnifiCAT still stands at the end of the alley.
The bunny has just drawn back its lips in a weird grin. Its long, sharp front teeth gleam in the dark. You suddenly realize why MagnifiCAT sent it.
It's a deadly attack rabbit!
Its powerful hind legs jab at you. You shriek as its fangs dig into your throat. The nasty gleam in its eye tells you this rabbit is HOPPING mad!
You know it's over for both you and Will.
Yup. This bunny lucked out. But that figures. After all, rabbits' feet are lucky, aren't they? And this vicious creature has four of them!
