Helen's Resurrection

"Yeah, of course!"

"When did you start being a fake Christian?"

"What? What does that mean…"

"When did you start quoting scripture when you wanted something from God, while conveniently forgetting about it when you wanted to do something you knew was wrong?"

"I…"

"You didn’t kill me, Alex, but if my death brings your soul closer to God, then I am happy with that. Look where you are now, what you have accomplished when you surrendered to His will."

"I guess, but did you have to die for this to happen?"

"I don’t know… However, it is nice to focus on the positives when tragedy strikes."

"Well, I suppose that is good…"

"Can you do me a favor?"

"Sure, anything!"

"Now that I am gone, I need you to do something amazing with the life you have been given. You brought me back from the dead, so imagine the impact you could have on the rest of the world."

"What should I do?"

Helen smiles at you and lays back down. "I’m sure you will figure it out; you always do." She closes her eyes, and the warmth fades. You are left standing in the frigid night air, staring at your sister’s lifeless body.

After what feels like hours, Lamar puts a hand on your shoulder and says, "Are you okay, Alexander?"

"Yeah, come help me with this," you say emotionlessly. Moving on autopilot, you close the casket and climb out of the six-foot pit.

"What are you doing?"

"Filling it in."

"Alexander, I meant after tonight…"

You stop and look back at your friend. He is fidgeting his hands, probably guessing that the reunion didn’t go how you planned it. Wide-eyed, he looks at Helen’s casket and back at you.

"I am going to figure it out."
