Horror of Horrors!
You select one of the cards near the end. You take a quick peek at it. Jack of hearts.
"Your card," MagnifiCAT declares. "You believe it is the jack of hearts. Is that right?"
"Yes, it is," you respond.
MagnifiCAT throws the deck of cards across the stage. Ralph leaps onstage and catches all but one. That card sticks to MagnifiCAT's palm. He shows it to the audience, then to you. The card on his palm is the jack of hearts.
"There must be two of them," you insist.
"Look again at the card you picked," MagnifiCAT instructs you.
You glance at it. Now you are holding the jack of spades!
MagnifiCAT turns to face the phantom audience. "By my mystical powers the jack of hearts and the jack of spades have just exchanged places. This is a small thing. The wise men of ancient civilizations understood the great secret of the transfer of SOULS. They could send their minds to inhabit other bodies. The secret was lost, but I have rediscovered it. I will demonstrate it to you tonight."
He motions to Will and hands him the jack of hearts. "Stand on the left side of the stage," he orders. To you he adds, "And you on the right."
You and Will do as you're told. "Look at the cards. Concentrate on them. Command them to change places," MagnifiCAT says.
As you concentrate on the card, your world gets narrower and everyone vanishes. You shut your eyes and clench your teeth. For one moment you feel as if the floor has fallen away beneath your feet. You open your eyes and stare down. The jack of diamonds! It worked...but then, you notice something strange. Your hand looks different somehow.
When you glance up, you realize that you are now standing on the left side of the stage. You glance across the stage. There, standing in the spot where you were standing just a few moments ago, is YOU!
"Well, well, well!" MagnifiCAT rubs his hands together. "I intended to make the cards change places. This is even better!"
"I don't want to be in Will's body!" you exclaim. "I want my own back!"
"Switch us back! Please!" Will pleads, in your voice.
"I'm not sure I can do that," MagnifiCAT replied. "This is a very new technique. It still has a few bugs in it."
"We don't care!" Will shouts.
"Very well," MagnifiCAT murmurs. "Go back to where you were and concentrate on your cards."
You do as you're told. Concentrate...you must concentrate! You shut your eyes tightly. Once more you feel the floor fall away. You open your eyes. The world looks funny. You're much shorter now, and you notice dozens of smells for the first time.
It's a struggle to speak. When you finally succeed, what comes out sounds exactly like..."RALPH!"
You glance around the stage. Your heart sinks and your tail stops wagging. You spot your body on the other side of the stage. Ralph the dog is now living in your body.
Well, doggone it, MagnifiCAT still has a few kinks to work out in this routine.
