Horror of Horrors!
You grab the battered wand. An electric shock goes through your hand. You wrap your hand tightly around it.
"Hold it right there," you order. You point the wand at the masked man. "One step closer, and I'll use this!"
The deep, rumbling voice fills the room. "Ignorant pip-squeak! You would dare to turn my magic on me!"
So it IS MagnifiCAT behind the mask! "I mean it! Leave us alone!" you cry.
MagnifiCAT raises his hands. The long, jagged fingernails drip dark-red goo. He jabs them toward your eyes.
You leap away from MagnifiCAT. You glare down at the wand. You try waving it. All that does is leave a trail of tiny, twinkling white lights in the air.
I wish I knew how to make this thing work, you think.
The tip of the wand starts to glow. That's it! WISHES must make it work!
As MagnifiCAT reaches for you, you put all your strength into a single, powerful wish. You feel the energy flow down your arm into the wand. You close your eyes and release it.
I WISH MAGNIFICAT WOULD GO AWAY! you think.
A green ball of energy bursts from the wand and surrounds the masked magician.
"Curse you!" he screams. "Curse you, you meddler!"
A tunnel of light opens behind him. You watch him being dragged into it...then he is gone. The tunnel vanishes.
The wand is gone too and so is the suitcase.
There was a suitcase, wasn't there? You can't quite recall.
"What are we doing back at my house?" Will asks. He sounds dazed. "What happened to the magic show?"
You shake your head. "I can't remember anything about it." You shrug. "I guess we didn't go."
"I wonder why. Hey --- MagnifiCAT is performing again tomorrow night."
"Great!" you exclaim. "Let's go! Of course, I don't believe all that magic stuff."
"Maybe MagnifiCAT will make a believer out of you after all," Will declares.
You laugh and shake your head. "Don't count on it!"
