The Middle Mary Sue
You check behind you one last time, then duck your head and cup your hands to drink. The water is swift and cool, and you lift your hands to your mouth.
As you drink, you feel as if someone has hit you with a hammer, sending you spiralling down into darkness and strange, feverish dreams.
You do not awake when the spiders appear, eyeing the water warily, and carry your limp body away to feast.
