Errant by AnonAnon
You spin on your heel, blade drawn and slash at whatever dares to sneak up behind you. You feel resistance as it connects with the creature behind you. It shrieks and stumbles back, falling nearly prone to the glowing forest floor. It turns its head up to snarl at you as you take in its features. It looks almost like a human woman save for the tree bark skin that covers her. Her hair is long and obscures her barren chest, but her eyes shine from behind the long strands with an unearthly yellow glow.

Her resemblance to humanity causes you to pause for a moment giving her time to lunge at you with the mangled wooden spikes she has for hands. But she is slow and you're able to deflect her with your shield. She begins to crawl on the ground, posing like a jaguar about to pounce. You circle her, keeping your shield up and sword pointed down towards her. You bang on the front of your shield, taunting the creature and luring it in. Unable to realize your farce it leaps for you, claws out and pointed at your throat. You swipe upwards with your sword creating another gash across its body before bringing your blade down again. It makes another guttural cry before collapsing to the ground. You stab it down once more at the base of the neck making sure to finish it for good.

Whatever that creature was, it surely meant you a great deal of harm. You're lucky you got the first strike in. Feeling opportunistic you take a moment to look over the body. It has no possessions aside from the loose grass skirt it wears. Still you take the time to analyze the monster and discern what it could be. Your master spoke of trees coming to life, and while that would explain the bark skin you get the feeling that this was something different. Unable to glean anything else, you decide to keep moving. Will you go...
