A Day in the Life

You reflect on your day as you glance in the mirror one last time and gather your things to go.
It's been a day with barriers, miscommunications, and hiccups, but for you, that's normal. Living as a person who is Deaf definitely comes with some interesting experiences and challenges but to be honest, you wouldn't change a single thing about yourself. There was a time in your life when you felt unsure and even incapable of doing what you now do everyday.
Living true through it all gives you the luxury of being able to look back at who you were, everything that shaped you along the way, and see yourself clearly as you are now. You've got confidence. You've got grit. You're capable. You stayed true to what your gut told you about yourself and now you get to enjoy really knowing YOU. And above all, you are proud-- not in spite of whatever society thinks is "wrong" with you, but because of the differences that you have grown to cherish about yourself.
You've got a great job, a comfy apartment, and wonderful people in your life. Zooming out and looking at your life from slightly above, it occurs to you that you have everything your teenage self hoped you would. You worked hard, persevered through uncertainty, ignored those who said you couldn't, and you did it. And that feels pretty good.
Sure, its nerve wracking to go to a new place with new people, but you've already accomplished harder things today and kept your cool through it all.
You have to no doubt that you'll rock this too.
Well, here goes nothing, you think as you step out the door into the cool, city night.
