Erinyes Game
You only hesitate for a second before following the Fury down into the depths of the basement.
At the bottom of the ladder is a dark tunnel, leading out to a futuristic-looking lab. One wall is covered in monitors showing footage of all the rooms, and you see a table with piles of metals things, but you can’t concentrate on looking around. Right in front of you, the Fury has taken off the mask and is screaming at a tall man you haven’t met before.
You barely register that the Fury is actually Aphrodite before the tall man spots you. He sighs heavily.
“Now look what you’ve brought with you,” he says, interrupting her tirade.
Aphrodite doesn’t seem to care. “Answer me, Hades. What will you actually do with me if I actually kill Hestia, which I’ve told you I really don’t want to do? Will you let me free? Will you force me into another round of your games? Will you simply kill me? There aren’t any guarantees here, no reason for me to follow your instructions.”
The man—Hades—looks extremely bored of her shouting. “Enough, Aphrodite, that’s enough. If you’re not going to obey me, then I have no further use for you. Farewell.”
Reaching into his dramatically long purple cloak, Hades pulls out a remote and hits a button. Before Aphrodite can say a word, her choker starts to glow pink and white. Flower petals start to fall as the choker produces a syringe, which injects something right into her neck. Aphrodite chokes and falls to the ground, convulsing from what looks like poison.
You stand there in utter stock, unable to move.
“Hestia.” You meet Hades’s gaze with wide, terrified eyes. “I am deeply disappointed. You rejected my gifts, you didn’t try to fight. While you did, at least, follow her here, that doesn’t erase the other faults. I have no reason to keep you around.”
With a sorrowful look, he presses another button. Your choker bursts into flames, engulfing your face and burning you alive.
Through your screams, you can barely hear him say, “I suppose I’ll have to search for another. I really thought you’d be the one, Hestia. Farewell.”
