Old Man's War

The ring does absolutely nothing the defend the soldier and the drawn arrow soon finds its way into his jugular. Despite the last battle being lost, per Consu rules, the humans still retain control of the colony. The Consu upon leaving promise that no further interference will occur, and the Humans shall have free reign over the planet. Across the universe against the Rraey, the CDF aren't so lucky and lose a significant colonization settlement to the species. You begin to wonder what the technology might have been had the final soldier won his duel, but for now the battle was won.
