The Fairground
[CLIMB DOWN THE LADDER]
I tried not to look down as I continued climbing down the ladder about 400 ft up within the center of the Ring of Death, all the way down to the ground level. I kept staring at the wet, patch of blood seeping through my pants, and tried ignore the pain that surged through my leg from each step I took, left and right, and back again. I closed my eyes and tried to hide my tears. My mind raced, and I tried not to think about Eric, or the girl who I couldn't help, but instead I tried to focus on what i could do next as soon as I reach the ground level. The letters "A" and "T" from the electrical sign of the rollercoaster flickered on and off while all the lights from the remaining letters were now completely off.
I reached the bottom, placing both feet onto the tar pavement of the amusement park. I gazed upon more than a dozen still lifeless bodies, scattered near the entrance of the rollercoaster. Tears blurred my eyes as I walked over to one of the bodies that was wearing a "Dead Fetus Exposition" T shirt, drenched in blotches of blood. The body was faced down, immersed in a large pool of blood, laying in a very awkward and uncomfortable position that looked mangled, but could only obviously be seen as dead. I leaned down and rested a hand on his back.
"Eric..." I whispered, turning into a sob that disappeared into the silence of the night merging with a distant rusted, squeaking sound of metal grinding against metal that was somewhere nearby in the fairgrounds. I'm going to kill those clowns, I thought to myself. I never was the type of person to use violence on anybody, but the malice I felt deep down in my chest, made me want to get revenge for my friend. I turned away from Eric's body, stepping over the remaining passengers, trying not to slip on the pools of blood or step on any of them. They were just sleeping, resting on the ground, I told to myself in my mind to stop from breaking down, crawling to my knees, and give up.
