Extend the Story - Add a Room

Worlds Apart by Cat2000
Before you can say anything, the Guardian speaks up. "It wouldn't be a good idea to go off on your own. You never know who might be listening in."

"And why do you care?" the woman demands of him.

The Guardian doesn't say anything, but his gaze moves briefly towards you and then away again.

The woman laughs, but there's very little humour in it. "Are you really worried about her? I thought you only cared about doing your job." She shakes her head. "You are really pathetic."

The Guardian says nothing, but one hand slowly clenches into a fist.

The woman turns to you, the faintest of smiles gracing her lips. Finally, she speaks. "Are you aware that there is a disease sweeping through the clones here?"

You think back to the past few days. You could have hardly failed to notice several of your sisters coughing up blood. They've been taken by the healers and you haven't seen them since. Slowly, you nod in response to the woman's question.

"The healers have been unable to find a cure for the virus until now," the woman continues. "There's the possibility that a cure can be found elsewhere, but it requires a person to leave this facility and travel to other planets in search of the cure." She looks steadily at you. "You are different to the others. You can think for yourself. I have spoken to your tutors and they are in agreement with me. We believe you are the correct person to send to other planets - with adequate protection, of course."

You stare at the woman, hardly able to believe what you're hearing. They want you to leave your home and go into space? The thought is terrifying... but, in a way, almost exhilirating. To be picked for such a huge task...

"Of course, you have the option to say no," the woman adds. "All of us understand how scary and daunting a task like this would be."
