What Non-Western story do you belong in?

You belong in an adventure.

Knights. Horses. Princesses. 10-headed demons? Who doesn't love a good adventure? Filled with steel on steel, adrenaline, gore, an evil villain, a fair maiden to be rescued, life couldn't get any better.
Adventures are fairly simple; they consist of a quest (usually rescuing the hostage princess), a hero fighting for good, and a battle where good triumphs over evil. The End.

The Ramayana of Valmiki is an Indian Sanskrit epic filled with morals and how dharma should be conducted. The prince Rama, incarnation of the hindu god Vishnu, is banished from his home after he loses the throne, and he sets off to live in the wilderness with his wife, Sita, and brother and loyal servant, Lakshmana. Sita is abducted by the demon-lord, Ravana, and Rama and Lakshmana go on a quest to rescue her.

Many, many role-playing games follow this formula. Most notable would be the Legend of Zelda, where Link, the chosen hero, is Prince Rama, the Princess Zelda would be Sita, the evil king Ganondorf is Ravana, and Navi the fairy would be Lakshmana. Other games like Kingdom Hearts, Mario, and even Red Dead Redemption are good modern versions of the adventure story genre.
