Monkey! Who doesn't love Monkey? Is he just there for entertainment or hidden within this Chinese story are there morals? Monkey was a prisoner in a mountain, released by the monk named Tripitaka, who's searching for sacred scrolls in India. Their journey is definitely strange. Occasionally Monkey would not only scare off robbers and bandits, but he'd actually kill them.

Modernized versions of Monkey include The Forbidden Kingdom (starring Jet Li) and Dragon Ball, which was derived by Monkey. In Dragon Ball, the main character, Son Goku, has a staff that can elongate itself, and the scrolls are replaced with seven "dragon balls" that summon a wish-granting dragon when they are together. Tripitaka is represented by the monk Krillen.
