The Lost Diary

Your mother thinks over your request for a moment and agrees that it is a good idea. She then sets about preparing herself for the journey and after a few minutes, steps out the door. Meanwhile, you begin the necessary preparations for your father's lunch.

A couple of hours later, your father has come and gone. You are in the middle of cleaning up when your mother returns.

"Did you find it?" you ask eagerly.

"No," she replies, her face a little downcast. "I guess there's nothing more that can be done."

You wonder whether the outcome may have been different if you had taken on the task yourself. It is too late now, though, as the marketplace has closed for the day.
